Mauricio Basila Lago
Attorney at law, on 1993 he obtained a law degree at Universidad La Salle, and obtained a post-graduate degree in obligations and contracts at Escuela Libre de Derecho on 1994, and a master degree in International Banking and Financial Law at Boston University on 1998.
He held several positions at the Federal Treasury (Tesorería de la Federación) of the Ministry of Finance (Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público).
From 2001 to 2004, he was Issuers General Director in National Banking and Securities Commission (Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores) (“CNBV”), where actively participated in the amendment of the Securities Market Law of 2001 and the Mutual Funds Law.
From 2004 to 2007, he was Vice-President of Securities Surveillance of CNBV, where he coordinated the working group responsible of preparing the draft of the new Securities Market Law, approved by the Mexican Congress in 2005.
He was partner at López Velarde, Heftye and Soria, S.C., where he led the Securities and Finance Law area.
Currently, he is a founding Partner of Basila Abogados, S.C.
He has been a professor of Securities and Finance Law and Business Law at Universidad La Salle and professor of Securities and Derivatives Law at the Seminar of Finance Law at Universidad Iberoamericana, where he received the award as the best post-graduate’s professor of such University.
He has published several articles related to the Securities Market Law.
He is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences in Mexico and abroad, on topics related with the regulation of the stock exchange, corporate governance, structured finance, private equity, derivatives and mutual funds.
He is Secretary of the Board of Mexican Association of Private Equity and Venture Capital Funds (AMEXCAP), as well as member of several Board of Directors of companies related finance, securities and private equity.
He has been recognized by Chambers & Partners as one of the Leading Lawyers in Mexico in the Capital Markets Area.
